Embracing diversity is the key to fostering a thriving community.
As a renowned theater company, the Black Theatre Workshop takes center stage in promoting and shining a spotlight on the incredible works of Black artists in Canada. But hold on tight because they're not just here to entertain—they're on a mission to educate, inform, and inspire audiences about the rich Black experience in North America. Their design approach is a burst of creativity that dances with the rhythm of social justice and anti-racism. They're all about raising the curtain and giving Black voices the megaphone they deserve, creating a stage where celebration and empowerment take the spotlight.
The aim of this project was to revamp the essence and identity of the Black Theatre Workshop. After delving deep into the company's values and purpose, three powerful principles emerged as the guiding stars of the rebranding: the undeniable importance of representation, the imperative to showcase black voices, and the profound strength that arises when black people unite. To capture the essence of these concepts, special emphasis was placed on the captivating photography of Black individuals. Through the eyes of these remarkable individuals, a single image can convey a multitude of stories. The goal was to ensure that every aspect of the rebranding echoed the resounding message cherished by the Black Theatre Workshop.

In order to allow the work to shine, I'll keep this brief. The outcome of this project was a powerful and meaningful representation of the message embodied by the Black Theatre Workshop. My objective was to streamline the logo and enhance the impact of the photography, ensuring that the true essence of the message resonates through the posters, tickets, banners, and all associated materials connected to the Black Theatre Workshop.
